Are home-births safe?

Yes! For low-risk, healthy women homebirths are a safe option! Homebirths lead to less interventions, increased breastfeeding initiation, and increased postpartum health. ACOG (American College of Gynecologists) states “Recent studies have found that when compared with planned hospital births, planned home births are associated with fewer maternal interventions, including labor induction or augmentation, regional analgesia, electronic fetal heart rate monitoring, episiotomy, operative vaginal delivery, and cesarean delivery. Planned home births also are associated with fewer vaginal, perineal, and third-degree or fourth-degree lacerations and less maternal infectious morbidity.”

What does a midwife bring to a birth?

Midwives bring an assistant and birth bags that include, but are not limited to, fetal doppler, vital monitoring equipment, hemorrhage medications, neonatal resuscitation equipment, oxygen, IV fluids, IV antibiotics, local anesthesia, suturing instruments, homeopathies, herbs, and so much more!

What if there was an emergency?

Great question! Emergencies are rare but we do plan for them just in case. At your 37 week visit, we create an emergency care plan together and outline the nearest hospitals and what would indicate a transfer to the hospital. If an emergency were to occur, we would ride with you in the ambulance, give report to the local hospital and stay with you until things are stable.

What if I want a hospital birth?

We believe in and honor where every woman wants to give birth, that is the beauty of having options. We would provide the same loving, supportive, and educational prenatal care and when you go into labor, we would call the on-call doctor and fax your records to the hospital of your choice. Then when you are discharged, we continue your postpartum care as normal.

How much does a home-birth cost?

Home-births and the midwifery model of care are often far more cost effective than a hospital birth. Usually our global maternity fee (all prenatal, birth, and postpartum care) is less than deductible costs for our clients. We are in the process of becoming a medicaid provider so please reach out if you have medicaid. We do provide a highly capable third party biller that can aid you in gaining coverage for an out of network provider. Please call for pricing and payment plans.
